Mini OLT Service Templates: Why You Need Them?

Release date:2026-06-23

In the configuration of the PON, classified by the granularity and implementation of configuration,it can be divided into discrete management and centralized management, which is suitable for different scenarios.

Among them, the discrete management adopts the single-stage distribution mode, and the operator needs to configure the parameters,  such as the VLAN, bandwidth limiting and business permissions for each ONU. This pattern applies only to a scenario with very small number of terminals. Although the maximum number of access to the Mini OLT is about less than 200, although access capacity cannot compare with multi-port OLT. However, the workload of discrete configuration increases linearly with the number of ONUs, resulting in extremely low efficiency. Manual mismatches and missing configurations are highly likely to occur, which will cause inconsistent service policies across the entire network.

Centralized management is the standard solution for carrier-grade PON networks. Its core concept is to group ONUs with identical service attributes and configuration rules, and deliver policies in bulk based on unified configuration benchmarks to ensure globally consistent terminal parameters for the same application scenarios.

Independently defined service templates is the solution to realize centralized management: standardized service parameters are encapsulated into reusable template units. When an ONU registers, it only needs to bind the corresponding template to complete all service configurations automatically, which fundamentally balances configuration consistency and maintenance efficiency.

1. Mini OLT of Rayin Technology

Based on the deployment need of different scenarios, Rayin technology, using the layered template architecture, independently defined the service templates, including below modules:

A. DBA module :  defines upstream traffic parameters of the GPON system and binds them to T-CONTs, which is used to control the upstream bandwidth allocation rules of ONUs.

B. Traffic module: defines the template for the speed limit of the line of the onuser's side (ni) port, and controls the inbound and outward data transfer rate of the terminal port.

C. The line module: defines the underlying line-side parameters of an ONU serves as the fundamental configuration carrier for the OMCI management channel.

D. The service module: defines the service attributes on the user side of ONUs, which governs the service configuration rules of terminal ports.

E. VOIP module: defines ONU voice service parameters, used for full configuration of VoIP telephony services.

F. Tr069 module: defines parameters of the ONU TR-069 remote management protocol, enabling remote control of terminals by the ACS management server.

G. WAN module: defines the WAN connection attributes of ONUs, which serves as the bearer foundation for all IP-based services.

The above service templates seem very complicated. During deployment scenarios such as hotels and small-to-medium buildings with hundreds terminals, most operation people are not professional Engineers,it is easy to cause failures due to incorrect template association. Rayin technology increases the template strategy function, preset the standardized scene template (hotel room, corridor, elevator, etc.), so ordinary operator only need to select the corresponding scenario templates to quickly complete industry-specific service deployment. They do not need to understand the PON configuration logic.

Mini OLT of Rayin technology retains the core advantages of template-based centralized management, including batch configuration delivery, unified parameters and efficient O&M, while also supporting discrete configuration for individual ONUs. When the whole network is deployed, the centralized template is used for the batch opening. In the case of shops and special dedicated lines, these kinds of equipment that require individual adjustment parameters are modified separately, and the whole batch template is not changed, and all kinds of project scenes can be fit. It meets the personalized requirements of complex projects, and the two modes can be switched freely. For example, centralized templates can be adopted to activate services with one click for the overall network deployment of residential communities, saving time and labor cost. When dealing with devices such as shops and special leased lines that require separate parameter adjustments, you can directly switch to the discrete mode for independent modification, making it adaptable to all kinds of engineering scenarios.

2. Conclusion

When choose Mini OLT, you can not just compare hardware price, the software function determine the cost of operation and network stability. If the device only supports discrete management, each device should be individually opearted. And if the device also support centralized unified control platform, and you will save a lot in the daily adjustment and troubleshooting.
